3 Reasons You Should Eat More Raspberries

This season is moving by quickly! It feels like we were welcoming strawberries to the market yesterday... and now we have raspberries! Pretty soon we'll be shielding ourselves from the snow and not the rain.

If you're anything like us, and you like to eat fruit when it's in season, you've likely eaten WAY too many raspberries this week (or are planning to over-indulge this weekend).

Raspberries are good for you! But, if you're curious about the more-specific health benefits, we broke it down for you.

Here are 3 reasons you should be eating more raspberries:

    1. Raspberries are a good source of fibre. Half a cup of raspberries contains 4.0 to 4.2 grams of fibre. When you have a diet high in fibre, you feel fuller longer which can help reduce your appetite and improve weight control.
    2. They're low in fat and sodium. Foods lower in fat often have fewer calories. They're (almost) a guilt-free snack! Raspberries are also low in sodium. Foods low in sodium help to promote healthy blood pressure.
    3. Like many other berries, raspberries contain antioxidants. Antioxidants help to reduce the presence of radicals, which cause cell mutation and unhealthy multiplication sometimes leading to cancer.

So, the next time you eat an entire container of raspberries, don't give yourself a hard time! They're good for you!

Purchase fresh, BC raspberries this weekend at the markets. Click here for the list of markets we attend.
