Organic in Osoyoos, BC
By Patricia Doiron
What does it mean to be Organic? Last week, we took some team members on a 12 hour drive to our family farm in Oliver, BC. 15 minutes away, there is a town called Osoyoos, BC, that is well known for winery's.
Scott, a good friend of Steve and Dan's Fresh BC Fruit, is the owner of a beautiful organic orchard in Osoyoos. Although most of what we sell is not considered organic, when peaches and nectarines are in season, we source from Scott's farm. To be considered organic, a farm must be spray free for 5 years- unless you need to spray a diseased tree. Scott's wife told us about the love and care that they put into their farm- much like the other farmers we visited. Running an orchard requires a lot of hard work- you really need to love what you do.
